Sailors Testing for ESWS

USS Lake Erie sailors sit in the Chiefs Mess deeply engaged in their enlisted surface warfare specialist test. The test is not taken lightly. It consist of 150 fill in the blank questions; closed book. For a sailor to earn his enlisted warfare qualification he must learn the ship inside and out. This "mark of the professional" is a highly regarded qualification recognized as a standard of excellence by sailors around the fleet! Sailors continue to make the push to exceed our goal of 70 qualified before our return to Pearl Harbor!

One sailor, ET2 Oetjen, went above the call of duty. In his off duty hours he designed and built a place on the web for USS Lake Erie sailors. Sailors aboard the Lake Erie now have a place to test, study and quiz at any time of the day. The website can be found at Study ESWS. Bravo Zulu ET2!

Hong Kong

USS Lake Erie sailors visited the Big Buddha located at Ngong Ping, Lantau Island, in Hong Kong. They climbed up 268 stairs to reach the platform on which the Big Buddha was constructed. The Big Buddha is a popular tourist attraction; many sailors made the visit during the week.

Hong Kong was a great port visit for the USS Lake Erie. Sailors participated in a variety of MWR sanctioned trips. Also, many sailors took part in Meals-in-Home. This program allows sailors to enjoy a great meal and conversation with families in the ports we visit.

All aboard had a great time in Hong Kong. We are back out to sea looking forward to the next port visit!

Christmas Dinner

The Lake Erie celebrated Christmas with a spectacular feast. Culinary Specialist worked diligently throughout the day to prepare for the grand occasion. Cooking a Christmas dinner for three hundred is no small task, but the Culinary Specialist prevailed with the most succulent of meals. Everything from the mundane turkey to a full on shrimp platter was ready for the crew. The dinner was topped off by ice cream and various other deserts. Their work went noticed and was greatly appreciated!

Congratulations to ENS Select STG2 Ordonezocampo! He has been selected for Officer Canidate School! After completion of OCS ENS Select O'Campo will be entering the Public Affair Officer pipeline! Petty Officer O'Campo will be sorely missed as his contributions to the Lake Erie have been nothing short of stellar since checking onboard. Both as a technician and as the assistant PAO and the ships photographer!
