Banglamung Hospital

USS Lake Erie Sailors visit and bring vital supplies to Banglamung Hospital in Thailand.  Sailors eagerly volunteered their time and effort in unloading a pallet full of medical and hygiene supplies.  Sailors then proceeded to the pediatrics floor in which Sailors engaged and spoke with many patients in the hospital.  This community relations project was a very moving and gratifying experience for our Sailors.  The US Navy at its best!  DONT GIVE UP THE SHIP!

  

Habitat for Humanity Thailand

USS Lake Erie Sailors pitched in during a Habitat for Humanity community relations project in Thailand. Sailors assisted in the construction of a new Habitat house for a needy Thai family. Sailors poured a foundation for a new house, this involved mixing sand, cement, gravel and water and pouring the foundation by hand with buckets. A number of local residents also came by to watch and lend a hand. While this was exhausting work, Sailors shared a sense of satisfaction for the tangible results. The house had a dirt floor in the morning and, by the afternoon, a finished concrete foundation. We also set a Navy coin in a prominent place in the floor as a testament to our Sailors efforts.

BATTLE CAT 24

USS Lake Erie is conducting flight operations at sea with an SH-60 Helicopter "Battle Cat 24". Helicopter and flight crew are conducting a Helo in flight refueling (HIFR). Air Department’s continuous outstanding maintenance of two SH-60B helicopters is vital in USS Lake Eire’s ability to sustain combat operations on deployment.

 

Mt Kinabalu, Malaysia

Sailors took advantage of one of the most spectacular mountain climbs in the world during our recent visit to Malaysia.  Mt Kinabalu (4095m) is the tallest mountain in South-East Asia and is situated in the Kinabalu National Park in the province of Sabah in Malaysian Borneo.  Mt Kinabalu takes two days to conquer and at sunrise, the views from the Mt Kinabalu's summit at Low's Peak are spectacular, making all the effort worthwhile.

Air Intercept Controller Training

Sailors from USS Lake Erie and Sejong the Great of the Korean Navy conduct Air Intercept Controller training during a recent port visit to Busan, Korea.

USS Lake Erie Officers also took part in a friendly game of volleyball and BBQ hosted by the Sejong the Great wardroom.  LAKE ERIE Sailors also took advantage of the great shopping Korea has to offer and took in a bit of sightseeing.
